- Design your own box and think from within!
For years I have dismantled old printers, clocks, radio’s, disk drives, got all the screws out and sorted them in neat little boxes, taking the plastic gears, bearings, etc.. and storing them all separately. This all resulted in a workshop with a large amount of boxes, drawers, cabinets, all filled with a wealth of electronic [...]
- Reprap’s as hot item on fosdem
http://weblogs.nrc.nl/hebben/2010/02/11/je-eigen-hardwarefabriek-de-3d-printer/ Erik de Bruijn (Dutch reprap expert) explains the future of rapid prototyping at http://www.fosdem.org/
- SmartXP lab open!
Today the SmartXP lab was officially opened by the Rector Magnificus of the University. A large number of demonstrations had been prepared by the HMI group and others. CreaTe had been invited to exhibit in the ‘community room’ (read: kitchen). A tomato-sauce printer (pizza printer) was demonstrated, together with WiiMote controlled vacuum cleaners, John-Chung-Lee screen [...]
- reflection(s) — on creativity
Obviously, in the Creative Technology curriculum creativity plays an important role. The best definition, I found sofar, gives the following characterization: The product of thinking has novelty or value, either for the thinker or his/her culture. The thinking is unconventional, in the sense that it requires modification or even rejection of previously accepted ideas. The [...]
- Masterclass day #2
Today the lessons on pancake backing (functional programming) were put to practice in the computer room. After a smooth introduction into the easy processing bits (drawing lines, shapes, pictures) the more difficult topics such as ‘how to start a video using an RFID tag’, ‘how to control pong with an arduino board’, and ‘how to [...]
- Interaction programming Challenge
So.. we’ve got this beautiful tree now, which works as a 30 pixel color display. Now it’s time to program interactive behaviour. All you need is an Arduino board with sensors that you need. Below is the example code (needs also blinkM library) included in the following zip file. So, here’s the challenge to all [...]
- Arduino + Processing: range finder
This example is build with components in our ‘Create Toolkit’. I made it last evening as exercise. A sharp distance sensor is rotated by an RC-servo. The Arduino sends sensor data to a processing application which makes a ‘radar’ like image. The processing code (with included arduino source) can be found here: arduinoscanner
- Ps2 joystick with arduino
With popularity of game controllers, also replacement parts are becoming easier to obtain. These tiny joysticks make excellent input devices for the arduino module. The only ‘problem’ is wiring. I designed a tiny PCB on which the joystick can be mounted. The PCB has a connector which plugs directly into the Arduino board. Here is [...]
- Tree of Knowledge V0.2
The Tree of Knowledge stood proud and tall in the EduCafe at last ‘open days’! We managed to get 30 balls containing blinkm LED modules ready in time, thanks to the relentless soldering efforts of Alfred the Vries.. Our tree consists of a welded steel trunk with branches made from iron normally used for reinforced [...]
