- project(s) — .CREATE @ GOGBOT
the creative technology students of the first year will show at GOGBOT 2010, from 9-12 september in Enschede, that resistance is not futile, using a virtual canvas that reflects (real) user actions in (virtual) space. See their description at the GOGBOT site and create @ appspot for more detail(s). In this way, the students demonstrate [...]
- Design your own box and think from within!
For years I have dismantled old printers, clocks, radio’s, disk drives, got all the screws out and sorted them in neat little boxes, taking the plastic gears, bearings, etc.. and storing them all separately. This all resulted in a workshop with a large amount of boxes, drawers, cabinets, all filled with a wealth of electronic [...]
- observation(s) — (the) process is (part of the) product
after reading the art of innovation and change by design books from IDEO, it became clear to me that we had to improve our process to improve our practice(s), that is start using the Smart XP not only as a theatre but also as a studio, and develop a culture of design thinking, in order [...]
- SmartXP lab open!
Today the SmartXP lab was officially opened by the Rector Magnificus of the University. A large number of demonstrations had been prepared by the HMI group and others. CreaTe had been invited to exhibit in the ‘community room’ (read: kitchen). - The good, the bad and the worst
In order to learn to do things well, it can be very useful to do them badly. Last weeks’ New Media assignment: make the worst web page ever. Some students succeeded very well, since some of the most horrible pages were published. See for yourself and add a comment to let us know your personal favorite.
- The time has come!
Creative Technology has started! Last week, twenty students attended the first lectures. We are thrilled to start with a whole new group of students, exploring new ideas, inventing new applications that will hopefully change the world in one way or another. The year 2009-2010 will be exciting. We will witness the birth of a bachelor [...]
- Intake day
The Intake event was organized as both an informal get-together and evaluation event, in order to exchange views, get to know each other and to participate in two workshops: game development and DrawDio building. All in all it was a very positive experience, and we’re certainly looking forward to the start in September! Pictures of [...]
- reflection(s) — on creativity
Obviously, in the Creative Technology curriculum creativity plays an important role. The best definition, I found sofar, gives the following characterization: The product of thinking has novelty or value, either for the thinker or his/her culture. The thinking is unconventional, in the sense that it requires modification or even rejection of previously accepted ideas. The [...]
- Masterclass day #2
Today the lessons on pancake backing (functional programming) were put to practice in the computer room. After a smooth introduction into the easy processing bits (drawing lines, shapes, pictures) the more difficult topics such as ‘how to start a video using an RFID tag’, ‘how to control pong with an arduino board’, and ‘how to [...]
