The Creative Technology bachelor is being prepared by a very diverse team of skilled teachers. They are introduced on this page.

Job van Amerongen is professor in Control Engineering and is in the CreaTe development team primarily responsable for the Smart Technologies. He graduated at TU Delft where he worked on automatic steering of ships. During this period he was involved in the design of new autopilot systems for naval ships. He was regularly at sea for a few weeks to demonstrate that the designs made in simulation studies and in a lab environment, also worked well in practice.

Anton Eliëns studied art, psychology, philosophy, and computer science. He graduated cum laude in theoretical computer science, and published his Ph.D. thesis on the design, implementation and semantics of the distributed logic programming language DLP as a text book. He also published a book on object-oriented software development, of which the second edition has been translated in Russian and Chinese.

angelika3

Angelika Mader is assistant professor in the faculty of electrical engineering, mathematics and computer science. She is member of the program committee for Creative Technology, developing the curriculum and study material for Creative Technology. Her background is computer science and mathematics (TU München), where she did a PhD in theoretical computer science. Being 12 years in the Netherlands since the PhD she shifted her work focus to embedded systems, the methods of their design and verification. Since 2008 she shifted her research focus to Creative Technology. For the bachelor program Creative Technology she will teach computer science courses.

zsofia

Zsófia Ruttkay is associate professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Twente. After presenting an initial concept of the Creative Technology, she has been chairing the Creative Technology course development group. She is fascinated by the potentials of computer technology in novel interactive applications which invite people to play, cooperate and learn – meeting in a town square physically, or in a virtual space.

Edwin Dertien works as research engineer at the University of Twente, building humanoids that one day will take over the world. Since that dreaded day is still far ahead of us, he is still easy on the maniacal laughter and amounts of consumed rubber gloves. In 2004 he did his internship at the ‘Shadow Robot Company’ in London, working on air-muscle control, humanoid hands and robot spiders. In 2005 he graduated on the design of a walking 2D biped robot. Since his employment in 2005 he has been working on several projects, ranging from humanoid robots to snake like structures for in-pipe inspection. His expertise lies in the field of mechatronics, especially microcontroller oriented designs. Plays bass and keys, and works as musician for choirs, bands, musical groups and theatre. Besides music he likes to put his technical knowledge into practice, preferably with artistic projects. He started his own company ‘Kunst- en Techniekwerk’ (Art-and-tech-work) in 2006. Since 2008 he works for the Creative Technology bachelor program at the University of Twente

Tom Schooltink is the communications advisor for the Creative Technology team. It is his responsibility to ensure that word about this new bachelor programme gets out, so that twenty talented students are able to start in the 2009/2010 academic year. As a freelance advisor, he really enjoys being part of the team. “You never have to worry whether there is enough creativity to get things started. At Creative technology, that’s not an issue at all. Guiding all the creativity in the team in the right direction, for me it’s a wonderful role to play.”

marek_pasfoto

Marek van de Watering works for Creative Technology on a semi-freelance basis. After graduating cum laude in Multimedia and Culture at the VU University in Amsterdam (in 2007), he stayed there to work in the Multimedia curriculum and at the Earth and Life Sciences department, as concept designer and occasional guest-lecturer and researcher in multimedia. His contributions in Creative Technology vary from visual design to blogging, and from critical thought (whatever that may mean) to assisting in design workshops. After years of doubting and dreaming, from august (2009) on he will be studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Fine Arts and Design.

It is going quite well in the first year. We’re certainly expecting this program to stay for the coming years!
