This website aims to facilitate thoughts on Creative Technology, a new bachelor curriculum at the University of Twente. Currently, the site is in a test-phase!

whatis

Experts in smart technologies, industrial design and new media at the University of Twente join hands to develop Creative Technology. It must become the first university Bachelor of Science curriculum in the Netherlands, dedicated in content and in teaching methods to develop creativity of young people on an academic level to invent novel technological applications. Applications for every-day life at home and in urban spaces, that are witty and appealing, allow new experiences using novel ways of interaction and displays of all sizes, bridge ethnic conflicts, increase awareness for local and global issues… Our ideal is the Renaissance man of the digital age: intrigued by the possibilities of technology, sensitive to the phenomena in society, having an eye for the artistic qualities, and driven by the joy of experimentation and creation.

In order to assure that creative ideas do not remain dreams but get turned into commercially promising applications, Creative Technology offers a multidisciplinary education, integrating design, smart sensor and new media technologies with necessary computer science and mathematics foundations, as well as relevant behavioral and communication sciences and business skills. Students will be continuously challenged to use these assets for inventing and developing real-life applications … you will surely notice them not only on the campus, but in the Twente region, and national and international festivals.

But we are not that far yet … We expect the first students to start in September 2009. In accordance with the multidisciplinary nature, the education is open to everybody with a VWO diploma. On this page you can find more information about the content of the education, follow the news on the accreditation process, and get appetizers of Creative Technology in the form of master classes, talks and other activities.

I, together with a group of staff from UT, have been enjoying developing this new curriculum – and look forward to seeing students having similar enjoyment. You are welcome to check out our home regularly. If you have questions or some creative ideas, drop an e-mail: create@ewi.utwente.nl
